On morning, March 30th, 2017, an important panel discussion “Recalibrating U.S. Strategy Toward Russia: A New Time for Choosing” took place at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC, where Professor Zbigniew K. Brzezinski is the first and present incumbent of the Brzezinski Chair in Global Security and Geostrategy. United States Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), who serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, also is a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations and Chairman of the Subcommittee on European and Regional Security Cooperation, was the principal speaker at this important event.

Senator Johnson expressed his dismay that since the Russian invasion of Georgia, in August 2008, Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin repeatedly used armed force to change internationally recognized borders, and has been trying to destabilize, through disinformation campaigns, the European Union, NATO, and the United States. According to Senator Johnson, a robust response to Putin’s Kremlin must be the top priority for the Trump administration.

Before, calling on participants to ask the Senator questions, the Director of CSIS’S International Security Program, Kathleen H. Hicks, asked the Senator to comment on several aspects of Russian Governmental policy including the Kremlin’s involvement in several political assassinations. This writer, as Associate Editor of the POST EAGLE weekly newspaper, followed-up on the topic of Kremlin orchestrated political assassinations by asking Senator Johnson: “Is it high time for a new look at what really caused the Smolensk Disaster of 10 April 2010, in which President Lech Kaczynski, an opponent of resurgent Russian imperialism, and 95 others perished, including one United States citizen, in light of having read What We Know About the Course of the Smolensk Catatrophe?” This summary of scholarly investigations, since 2012, recently was published, March 2016, by THE ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE SMOLENSK CONFERENCES, an independent academic group. The summary persuasively discredits the official Russian Governmental MAK and Tusk Government Miller Commission explanations, pilot error in inclement weather, by showing that two or more bombs detonated inside Polish Air Force One. These detonations caused the plane to explode above the runway at Smolensk North Military Airfield. This means that the Smolensk Disaster was, in fact, a mass assassination.

Senator Johnson answered that it is time for Senate Committees to hold hearings on Smolensk. Moreover, the Senator would like to see more articles in the American and Western media on Kremlin lawlessness, and especially on Kremlin involvement in organizing the assassination of political opponents. Readers recall that President Lech Kaczynski was among the very first world leaders to view the Russian invasion of Georgia as but the first step in using armed force, disinformation, and intimidation to restore the Soviet empire.
