“It is difficult to shrug off such news. This shows how accurate the Prosecutor’s decision was to finally begin the exhumations of the victims bodies of the Smolensk catastrophe. Allowing for a situation where the remains returning from Smolensk were buried without undergoing autopsies and identification was horrific negligence on the part of the Tusk administration. The families were told that autopsies were not permitted because sanitation rules prohibit them” – Parliament Member Jacek Sasin stated. Sasin was commenting on the latest report of “Fakt“. According to the paper, the coffin of General Bronisław Kwiatkowski encased the remains of seven other victims of the disaster.
“For years I did not know whether they found my husband. Well I found out now” – admitted Krystyna Kwiatkowska, the General’s widow. The General was the Commander of Operational Command – Polish Armed Forces. The General’s widow confessed that she didn’t know what to do about another funeral, whether to arrange it or wait in case new information surfaces that investigators found her husband’s body parts in other victims’ coffins.
Jacek Sasin demanded on TVP Info an apology from Ewa Kopacz. “I expect that Ewa Kopacz who assured us from the House of Parliament floor – that the autopsies were performed professionally, that on-location investigation was carried out diligently by digging 1 meter under, that she would apologize. In his opinion finally we have lived to see the moment, when someone seriously takes charge of the exhumations of the victims of the Smolensk catastrophe.”
Michal Dworczyk, the deputy Minister of Defense, expressed similar position on TVN24: “This is yet another dramatic example of what procedures were in place at that time – or rather how neglectfully actions were taken in those first days following the events in Smolensk“ he assessed. “In the name of the Polish government apology is due” said the deputy Minister.
The crash of the government plane Tu-154M in Smolensk on April 10th, 2010 took the lives of 96 people – including President Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria.
